Independent Series:
Artist's Love
"Artist's Love" is a project that explores how artists form relationships within a capitalist society. Focusing on love and connection, the artist questions the impact of media, individual choices, and social structures on how humans build relationships. These ideas are presented through three spatially distinct installations.
Love in Debt:
Artists in a Capitalist Society
-
The core of this series lies in questioning how artists navigate love and relationships in economically unstable conditions.
-
Capitalist society imposes constant financial insecurity on artists, making it difficult to establish personal connections.
-
The artist defines those who postpone love as "love debtors," exposing the structural issues that lead artists to avoid human relationships.
Interviews in Resonance
This project gathered the experiences and perspectives of 15 artists through interviews, integrating them into the creative process to expand the scope of the work. By moving beyond personal experiences, the collaborative approach fostered layered and universal narratives, while exploring the possibilities of interaction and collective creation.
Phase 1. Expanding Thought Through Interviews. 2024
First Space: The Space of 'Self'
-
This space centres on the artist, exploring their position within a capitalist society and their relationship with media.
-
Desiring the ideal male image portrayed in media, the artist gradually becomes isolated in the gap between reality and the ideal.
-
Through short-form media, they fulfil their dopamine needs, substituting loneliness with digital gratification—a reflection of how relationships are replaced in today's digital landscape.
-
This space illustrates how relationships are distorted and severed by economic instability and media dynamics.

Second Space: The Space of 'You'
-
Centred on the stories of others, this space reveals that the reluctance towards relationships and romance stems not only from economic factors but also from conflicts between career and self-fulfilment.
-
It explores the tension between love and career, illustrating how others, too, face limitations in their choices under the pressures of capitalism.
-
The narrative of the "attempt to shatter media with love" failing symbolises that both media and love are unbreakable aspects of the human experience.

It refrains from condemning media itself as inherently harmful, instead highlighting that the core issue lies in the attitudes of those interpreting it.
-
Through metaphor, it depicts the process of individuals, each with their own interpretive frameworks and flaws, embracing differences and building relationships.

The project Artist's Love (2024) introduced new possibilities to Taeheon Lee's artistic practice by adopting a creative approach centred on interview research and narrative. Shifting focus from a technique-driven method, the project expanded into a collaborative and narrative-focused process, utilising diverse media such as interviews, music, and fiction to explore a layered and human-centric approach. By addressing love and relationships not as mere personal emotional issues but within structural and social contexts, poses new questions to the audience.
